MALAYSIA’S RECENT VISA FREE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR INDIAN TRAVELLERS

Malaysia has extended its visa exemption program for Indian nationals until December 31, 2026, to boost tourism and prepare for its 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship and Visit Malaysia Year 2026. Home Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Awang Alik Jeman made the announcement.

Entry Requirements for Indians
The Malaysian Government introduced an e VISA in 2017 to facilitate visa applications and tourism in Malaysia. Indian citizens are able to apply for both VISA.
The e -visa allows indian citizen to stay up to 30 days. It is a single entry visa that permits a citizen of India to enter Malaysia once during its 3-month period of validity.
What is a Malaysia eNTRI Visa for Indians?
The eNTRI visa waiver for Indians is an electronic travel authorization which enables Indian citizens to travel to Malaysia for a period 15 days.
The eNTRI visa waiver permits Indians to visit Malaysia again, although they must wait 3 months until the last visit to Malaysia to obtain another eNTRI authorization. It is valid to use within a period of 3 months with a permitted stay of 15 days in Malaysia. The eNTRI visa waiver is single-entry only.
Benefits of Applying for a Visa for Malaysia as an Indian
Indians are able to apply for both an eNTRI visa waiver and an eVisa for Malaysia. However, depending on your reasons for traveling and the amount of time you wish to stay, you may want to apply for one more than the other. If you’re not sure about the differences between the eVisa and eNTRI visa and which authorization you will need in order to travel to India, take a look at the table below to understand the two types of travel authorization.

Any Indian national is able to apply for an eNTRI, including expatriates who reside in different countries. However, Indian citizens residing in Singapore are not able to able for an eNTRI.
The eNTRI visa waiver enables Indian citizens to visit Malaysia for up to 15 days. The eNTRI authorization cannot be extended and it may only be used once. After it expires, it can no longer be used and applicants must wait for a period of 3 months prior to applying for another eNTRI.
The form is simple to complete and once applicants receive their approved eNTRI visa waiver, it should be printed ready for presentation.
Requirements for Applying for a Malaysia Visa for Indians
If you have Indian nationality and wish to apply for a visa prior to traveling to Malaysia, it is crucial that you read through the requirements for Indian citizens traveling to Malaysia.
In order to apply for a Malaysia visa, travelers require:
- A recent passport-sized photo (check requirements)
- A blank passport front page (see example)
- The last page of an Indian passport
- A confirmed return flight booking
- Birth certificate (for applicant minors only)
- Proof of accommodation
Will be asked to provide the following documentation at the border:
- eNTRI or eVisa
- Confirmed return flight reservation
- Boarding pass
- Sufficient funds (debit/credit card, cash, traveler’s cheque, etc.)
- Travel itinerary
